The Theta Series 2016
The Theta Series
Overnight immersive performance – Original Music
The Theta Series was an immersive overnight performance created by choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki and presented at Onassis Stegi as part of the Hypnos Project. Inviting the audience to spend an entire night inside the theatre, the work explored the transition between wakefulness, sleep and dreaming through movement, sound and shared experience.
For the project, Tryfon Koutsourelis composed an immersive sonic environment built from abstract soundscapes, multidimensional sonic events and specially processed pulse structures, conceived for the three phases of the overnight performance.
As the audience gradually entered sleep, the music incorporated binaural beats and carefully designed sonic frequencies to accompany the natural rhythms of the sleeping brain. Moving between sound art, contemporary composition and psychoacoustics, the work explored the fragile threshold between wakefulness, dreaming and unconscious perception, transforming sound into an active element of the participants’ experience.
