Anamnesis

Site-specific performance series – Original Music

Anamnesis is an interdisciplinary project created in 2018 by Greek director and choreographer Apostolia Papadamaki. Since its inception, it has presented innovative site-specific performances at emblematic archaeological sites and museums, including Delphi, Delos and the Temple of Apollo in Ancient Corinth, as well as international venues, supported by public and private institutions.

Merging contemporary performance with ancient mysticism, Anamnesis creates immersive and participatory experiences that activate the remembrance of the soul’s journey, awakening a profound sense of connection to our shared cultural heritage, nature and one another.

For the project, Tryfon Koutsourelis composed the original music, creating immersive sound worlds that exist in constant dialogue with each site’s unique history, landscape and acoustics. Combining contemporary composition, electronics and acoustic instruments, the music becomes an integral part of the performance, shaping the audience’s emotional and spatial experience rather than simply accompanying the action.

Each work is conceived as a site-specific sound installation, unfolding throughout the archaeological landscape as both the audience and performers move through the space. The music becomes part of the environment itself, creating an evolving dialogue between sound, movement, architecture and nature.

Inspired by the concept of anamnesis—the act of remembrance—the music explores memory, ritual and transcendence, unfolding as an invisible layer of the landscape. Each composition is created specifically for its location, allowing sound, movement and place to become inseparable.

The project also expanded internationally with Prometeo o del sogno infranto di Europa, a performance-exhibition at the Museo Castromediano in Lecce, Italy, for which Tryfon composed the original music.
