C’est Beau, Album

C’est Beau is a music release by composer Tryfon Koutsourelis, originating from the choreography project by the French dance company DK-BEL. Initially part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ cultural program, the collaboration blended movement and music, engaging audiences with its emotive compositions and inventive soundscapes.

Following audience interest, the music of C’est Beau has been released as a standalone experience. The compositions have been adapted for listening, offering a cohesive and immersive auditory experience.

The theme of the performance draws inspiration from the writings of Charles Baudelaire, whose view of beauty embraces the bizarre, the strange, the chaotic, and the painful fragility of human existence. This concept is vividly embodied in the work’s dramatic melodies and emotional resonance, as the music reflects the complexity and duality that Baudelaire described—blending moments of serenity with intense, powerful climaxes, and embracing the transient, imperfect nature of beauty. The performance was broadcasted on national French Culture TV on 20/08/2024 with success, further expanding its reach and receiving positive reception from viewers.

Three singles have already been released and received an enthusiastic response. The track “Pulsation Brisée” was notably broadcast on Classic FM in the UK, the country’s leading classical radio station with over five million weekly listeners — a significant mark of international recognition. The eight-part work combines minimalistic and contemporary classical styles, featuring clarinet, string quartet, piano, female vocal, and electronics. Some instruments are processed using electronic tools, adding a modern, experimental layer that merges with the acoustic sounds to create a blend of organic and electronic textures.

Produced and recorded in Berlin, Paris, and London, the project involved musicians from these cities, alongside a singer from Athens. This combination of acoustic and electronic elements results in a richly textured sound, exploring the boundaries of classical crossover.

As C’est Beau embarks on an international tour, it continues to reach audiences with its unique fusion of sound and emotion, offering a thoughtful and innovative listening experience.

The artwork for the LP features an original painting by Iro Dimitriou. “In this work, a hand emerges from a loose sleeve, its relaxed fingers both inviting and enigmatic. The ambiguous origin of the hand draws us into a space where narrative meets abstraction, echoing Baudelaire’s vision of beauty as something fleeting, fragile, and deeply human. This painting serves as an invitation to step into Tryfon’s musical universe, to embrace its nuances, and to lose ourselves in its evocative depth. Inspired by the music and Baudelaire’s belief that beauty is born from chaos, pain, and the bizarre, I sought to capture a quiet, understated allure – one that lingers in the details often overlooked. Within this liminal space, where the tangible dissolves into the abstract, beauty emerges as a transient whisper.” – I.Dimitriou
